What's Going On With AMD Stock Thursday?

Samsung Electronics Co, Ltd's SSNLF partnership with Advanced Micro Devices, Inc AMD for GPU licensing remains intact, debunking earlier rumors of a split

The tech giant is reportedly working on a custom GPU, a development that hinges on AMD's technology.

Samsung's current Xclipse 940 GPU, featured in the Exynos 2400, has not met expectations, underscoring the necessity of AMD's expertise for enhanced performance, Wccftech reports.

Samsung's reliance on AMD is crucial as developing a custom GPU from the ground up presents significant challenges.

The company has previously opted for Arm Holdings Plc's ARM GPU designs in its Galaxy S models, highlighting a gap in its capability to create an in-house graphics processor.

The rumor of Samsung severing ties with AMD was dispelled by the tipster who initially circulated it, acknowledging an oversight in his earlier post.

Expectations are mounting for Samsung's 'Dream Chip,' the Exynos 2500, anticipated to mark a significant leap in performance, aided by the custom GPU.

The Exynos 2200 and its Xclipse 920 GPU, based on AMD's RDNA2 architecture, failed to impress, with its only redeeming quality being its superiority over the Qualcomm Inc QCOM Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in ray tracing.

The upcoming Xclipse 940, slated for the Exynos 2400, is also not expected to outperform the Snapdragon's Adreno 740 GPU.

Meanwhile, traders circulated a Baird note on AMD suggesting reduced 2024 estimates for lowered data center revenue.

Price Action: AMD shares traded lower by 1.62% at $102.38 on the last check Thursday.
