Marjorie Taylor Greene Said Trump As Speaker Would Create 'A House Of MAGA' — Schumer's Reply: 'No Thanks, We're Good'

In the latest political development, Senate Majority Leader, Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has expressed his refusal to support the concept of former President Trump taking up the open House Speaker seat.

What Happened: As reported by The Hill, the House Speaker seat has been empty for two days, with various names including that of former President Trump being suggested. Schumer voiced his dissent on social media.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) had earlier expressed her support for Trump’s consideration as a “short-term” solution to unite House Republicans.

The Georgia representative posted On X, formerly — Twitter — "If Trump becomes Speaker of the House, the House chamber will be like a Trump rally everyday!!"

Schumer dismissed this proposal stating, “No thanks, we’re good. We’ve seen a Trump rally at the Capitol already,” according to the report.

Apart from Trump, Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) have also thrown their hats in the ring. Despite endorsements for each candidate, a definite front-runner hasn’t surfaced yet. The Hill reports that the vote is expected to happen next week, but given the division among Republicans, a "divine intervention" might be needed.

Why It Matters: Rep. Greene had earlier publicly backed Trump as a candidate for the House speaker position. She expressed her support on social media, emphasizing Trump’s track record and his potential to uphold key promises if elected to the speakership.

However, Schumer’s refusal to support Trump’s candidature is linked to the former President’s controversial past. Specifically, his role in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot where Trump had defended his actions and the protesters, labeling the day as a “beautiful day”.

His own Vice President Mike Pence had described Trump’s role in the riot as “reckless,” but stopped short of calling it criminal.
