Ted Cruz Slams Joe Biden's Border Wall Decision Amid Migrant Crisis As Window Dressing: 'They've Gone Crazy'

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) criticized President Joe Biden’s recent decision to continue the border wall construction in Texas, dismissing it as mere “window dressing” amid the ongoing migrant crisis.

What Happened: Cruz, on Wednesday, in an interview with Fox News, expressed his doubts over the administration’s commitment to resolving the immigration issue, stating, "This is a crisis. It's out of control, but I don't believe for a minute that Joe Biden wants to fix it."

"I think this is all window dressing to pretend he cares," he added.

“I think the end goal is two things. Number one, there’s a dynamic in the Democrat Party, which is they’ve gone crazy. And in particular, they’ve handed their policy agenda over to the radical fringe on every issue,” he said.

This came after the Biden administration announced that it would waive 26 federal regulations to expedite border wall construction across 20 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas. This move is a departure from the administration’s previous stand of avoiding new wall construction and contradicts Biden’s promises made during his 2020 campaign trail.

"There is presently an acute and immediate need to construct physical barriers and roads in the vicinity of the border of the United States in order to prevent unlawful entries into the United States in the project areas," Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said in a statement.

Cruz condemned the Biden administration’s immigration policy, implying that Biden desires more undocumented immigrants to enter the country.

Why It Matters: The border wall has been a contentious issue for quite some time. It has been a significant focus for Republicans in the upcoming 2023 and 2024 elections, particularly for Cruz, who is up for Senate reelection next year.

Earlier this year, GOP presidential primary Ron DeSantis and Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) also pledged to complete the border wall that Donald Trump promised in 2016 but did not deliver.

Meanwhile, former U.S. President Trump also accused Biden of watching the U.S. being “invaded” by illegal migrants and warned that “terrorists” are “already” inside the country.
