EV maker Lucid Group Inc LCID on Thursday launched the new Lucid Air Pure Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) in a bid to make its lineup cheaper.
What Happened: The new car, priced at $77,400, is now in the same price range as Tesla Inc‘s TSLA Model S dual motor all-wheel drive (AWD). The Model S, however, is priced lower than the Lucid at $74,990.
Lucid Air Pure AWD, meanwhile, is priced at $82,400, or $5,000 more than the RWD version. The Model S Plaid tri-motor trim which can touch 60 miles per hour in 1.99 seconds is priced only a tad higher at $89,990.
Features On The New Vehicle: The Air Pure RWD wields a power of 430 horsepower and can accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour in 4.5 seconds. It also has an estimated range of 410 miles.
While these specs are sure impressive, it still falls short of the Model S which can touch 60 miles per hour in 3.1 seconds. The Model S, however, has a marginally lower range of 405 miles.

Why It Matters: “With a starting price of $77,400, I believe that this new addition to the Lucid Air lineup is the car so many have been waiting for," Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson said about the new vehicle. The new car is the cheapest of Lucid’s lineup while the Model S is the more premium of the Tesla lineup. Tesla’s cheapest car- the Model 3 RWD- starts at $38,990.
Rawlinson was formerly the chief engineer for Tesla‘s Model S.
