In the ongoing investigation regarding the handling of classified documents, President Joe Biden has been interviewed by Special Counsel Robert Hur. This development has been confirmed by the White House.
What Happened: As reported by The Hill, President Biden met Special Counsel Hur on Sunday and Monday. The special counsel’s appointment earlier this year was to investigate the discovery of classified documents at Biden’s residence and a past office.
“The President has been interviewed as part of the investigation being led by Special Counsel Robert Hur,” confirmed Ian Sams, the White House spokesperson. The interview took place at the White House over two days, concluding on Monday.
Sams stated, “The President and the White House are cooperating with this investigation, and as it has been appropriate, we have provided relevant updates publicly, being as transparent as we can consistent with protecting and preserving the integrity of the investigation.”

The New York Times was the first to report about the interview, indicating a significant step in the probe and hinting that the investigation may be nearing its end.
Why It Matters: Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Hur as a special counsel in January. Hur’s investigation centers around the discovery of classified documents at Biden’s home in Wilmington, Del., and at a University of Pennsylvania office in Washington, D.C. that Biden used post the Obama administration.
Before the President’s interview, several key aides and cabinet members were questioned about the handling and possession of these classified documents. This included Steve Ricchetti, a key White House aide, and other significant figures such as Jake Sullivan, Antony J. Blinken, Ron Klain, and Michael R. Carpenter.
Biden’s team has maintained that upon discovering the documents, his lawyers promptly notified and cooperated with the Justice Department.
