Musk Says Starlink Internet Could Soon Be Available On Most Flights, But There's A Condition

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said on Monday that its Starlink satellite internet service will soon be available on most aircraft, given certain conditions.

What Happened: “Starlink will be available on most aircraft soon, depending on whether the airline orders it,” Musk wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

He was responding to a user who flagged the lack of internet on a 10-hour, 54-minute flight. The user termed the phrase ‘Sorry, internet not available’ as the four worst words in the English language in their post.

Why It Matters: SpaceX says that Starlink can provide up to 220 Mbps download speed to each plane, enabling all passengers to access streaming-capable internet at the same time. This will enable flyers to access video calls, online gaming, and virtual private networks, among other things.

In-flight Starlink internet is priced at $25,000 per month. Hardware costs come to $150,000.

Starlink is currently available on Gulfstream G650 & G650ER. Before the end of the year, it is expected to be available on Bombardier Global Express and Airbus A321Neo, amongst other aircrafts.
