First Detailed Google Pixel 8a Leak Shows Off A Curvy Design: Here's What We Know So Far

The first detailed Google Pixel 8a leak is here, showing off the upcoming affordable Pixel smartphone from all angles. The leaked renders show off a curvy design, which seems to be Google's latest design language for the Pixel series.

What Happened: A fresh new Pixel 8a leak has shown off the upcoming affordable Google smartphone, giving us a 360-degree look at the phone's design, reported Smartprix in collaboration with known tipster OnLeaks.

The leak shows off the Pixel 8a in rose gold color, but a previous tip showed we could see a blue color option as well, just like its more expensive sibling, the Pixel 8.

The Pixel 8a is expected to launch in the next few months. It is expected to feature a 6.1-inch 90Hz display, 8GB of RAM, two rear cameras, one selfie camera, and Android 14 out of the box.

Codenamed Akita, the Pixel 8a will also be powered by the Tensor G3 chipset just like the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. However, the chip itself could be lower binned, which should mean a marginal hit in terms of performance. This is expected, going by what Google has done with the Pixel 7a, too.

But beyond that, the Pixel 8a largely resembles the standard Pixel 8 – its edges are curved, and the camera visor has seen a refresh, too.

However, the bezels on the Pixel 8a are more prominent than those on its more expensive siblings. Again, the cost-cutting is understandable, given that Pixel 8a is expected to be affordable.

Why It Matters: Ever since Google moved to its own Tensor chipsets for Pixel phones, the company has made an affordable ‘a' branded version to help it reach a wider market.

This year's Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 8 have both witnessed a price hike – both the smartphones cost $100 more than their predecessors. While the Pixel 8 Pro starts at $999, the Pixel 8 starts at $699.

This makes an affordable version even more important for Google, which is still only the fourth-largest smartphone maker in the US.

Since the launch of the Pixel series in 2016, Google has shipped 37.9 million smartphones, according to IDC data. This suggests the company still has a long way to go.
