Built Like A Tank: Google's Pixel 8 Pro Survives Repeated Drop Tests That iPhone 15 Pro Failed

Alphabet Inc.'s GOOG GOOGL Google has seemingly built the Pixel 8 Pro like a tank. It passed the first Pixel 8 Pro drop test with flying colors, while Apple Inc.'s AAPL iPhone 15 Pro has turned out to be shockingly fragile.

What Happened: The Google Pixel 8 Pro already has a win in its cap against its rival, the iPhone 15 Pro. Google's latest flagship smartphone managed to survive repeated drop tests without breaking a sweat, according to a PBKreviews video.

The test consists of several drops on a hard concrete floor from varying heights, starting from the waist and going all the way up to the head height.

The reviewer dropped the Pixel 8 Pro max in different orientations that show the display, sides, and the back of the phone witnessing the first impact against the floor.

Despite going through this stressful testing, the Pixel 8 Pro emerged alive in the test. The only notable damage was on one of the display corners, but the phone itself remained normally functional.

On the other hand, the iPhone 15 Pro Max' back glass is fragile and easy to break – JerryRig's Zack Nelson found out that a thumb press is enough to crack the top-tier iPhone 15 Pro Max' back glass.

Why It Matters: The Pixel 8 Pro has seen an uptick in its price – it now costs $999, which is also the starting price of the iPhone 15 Pro.

In its bid to take the iPhone head-on, Google announced that the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will get seven years of Android updates. This is two years more than the support that Apple provides.

Now, with the Pixel 8 Pro showing that it is built like a tank and is far more durable than the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, Google has another feather in its cap – all it needs to do is to build on this and capitalize on the progress it has made so far.
