ChatGPT chief Sam Altman is just like the rest of us. He admitted to Joe Rogan that he, too, has an "internet troll streak" than he would like to admit.
What Happened: The Microsoft Corp.-backed MSFT OpenAI boss Altman was on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, where he spoke on a wide range of topics, including those about AI, ChatGPT, and how a future version of GPT could display the word soup of our inner thoughts.
During the podcast, Altman also underlined how the internet has enslaved many users, with some of them becoming trolls by posting provoking statements or getting into flame wars.
While saying this, Altman admitted that he himself indulges in trolling sometimes.
"I have more of an internet troll streak than I would like to admit. I try to just not give myself too much of an invitation, but I slip up sometimes," he said.
Why It Matters: Rogan and Altman were talking about how negative interactions – like dunking on someone on social media, especially X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit – can be rewarding at that point of time. "It's fun to say something s*****", Rogan said, and Altman agreed.
In some instances, people also do this to increase their engagement and the dopamine hit that they get from it.
A previous study has revealed that there could be a link between social media use and a decline in mental health.
The long-term effects of sending mean tweets to someone are not known yet – both on the one sending those mean tweets and the person to whom they are directed. The optimal solution, in such a case, is disconnecting from social media every now and then.
