Trump's Niece Agrees Jim Jordan Is A 'Criminal Conspirator' And Deserves 'Handcuffs, Not The Speaker's Gavel'

Zinger Key Points
  • Jim Jordan should be a co-defendant in Trump's Jan. 6 trial as he had privy to the events, says a radio host and CNN contributtor.
  • The Republicans are all set to choose between Jordan and Rep. Steve Scalise to fill the speaker post that has fallen vacant.

Republicans are scheduled to meet on Wednesday to choose through a secret ballot a successor to Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) as the Speaker of the House, and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OHIO) and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) are the top candidates in the fray.

Former President Donald Trump’s niece Mary Trump on Tuesday questioned the eligibility of Jordan for the post.

What Happened: “Jim Jordan should not be the Speaker. He should be a co-defendant in Donald Trump’s Jan. 6 trial,” said Dean Obeidallah, who hosts the Obeidallah Show on Sirius XM, said in an interview with Mary Trump. The Congressman knew more about the plot than anyone in the Congress as he was the lead member in the House of Representatives, he said.

Jordan helped Donald Trump amplify the lies and plot the coup and that’s the definition of a “criminal conspirator,” Obeidallah said.

Offering her take, Mary Trump said, “Jordan has been accused of a coverup.”

” Jim Jordan deserves handcuffs, not the Speaker's gavel,” she said, citing her guest Obeidallah.

Obeidallah also delved into the representative turning a blind eye to the sexual assault of students at Ohio State. He was referring to accusations by six former Oklahoma State University wrestlers that Jordan took no action in regard to complaints of sexual abuse against the players by a team doctor.

In a separate post on X, formerly Twitter, last week, Mary Trump blasted Donald Trump for backing Jordan for the post of House Speaker, calling it as “Evil endorses Evil.”

Why It’s Important: The ouster of McCarthy as speaker following a revolt spearheaded by the extreme wing of GOP members, has left Congressional duties in a limbo.

Speaking to reporters last week, Rep. Garret Graves (R-La.) said, “The House of Representatives is effectively frozen. We are not able to actually advance legislation. We can't even refer bills to committees,” CNN reported.

Rep. Patrick McHenry (R- N.C.) has been named interim speaker but his power is limited to recessing the House, adjourning the chamber, and recognizing speaker nominations. Given the razor-thin majority of the Republicans in the House and the fractious nature of members, a consensus could prove elusive.
