Biden To Make Wartime Visit To Israel Amid Ongoing Conflict With Hamas

President Joe Biden is set to visit Israel in an extraordinary wartime trip, aiming to both support the country and address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

According to a CNN report, Biden accepted an invitation from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the weekend. The visit is intended to show solidarity with Israel and explore ways to ease the situation in Gaza.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced Biden’s impending visit following seven hours of negotiations with Israeli officials. The two nations have agreed to develop a plan to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza’s civilians.

During his visit, Biden will also meet with King Abdullah II of Jordan, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt, and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. The situation in Gaza has been condemned by all three leaders.

Despite the security risks associated with such a diplomatic visit amid the ongoing crisis, White House officials have deemed the trip safe to announce and execute.

Biden’s visit is expected to build on Blinken’s multi-day Middle East tour. The U.S. aims to balance unwavering support for Israel’s military operations with efforts to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and stop the war from escalating.

Meanwhile, American officials have been watching the potential for the war to widen with growing concern, sending public and private signals to Iran to stay out of the conflict.
