Apple's iPad Mini 7 Might Feature These Three Major Upgrades And Come In New Color Options

Zinger Key Points
  • Apple is expected to bring a few major hardware upgrades with the iPad mini 7 over its predecessor.
  • While the design is expected to remain the same, Apple could enhance the color palette by borrowing from the iPhone 15 series.

Apple Inc. AAPL is gearing up to launch the iPad mini 7, and it could come with three major upgrades and several new color options.

What Happened: The seventh-generation iPad mini is expected to feature some important hardware and software upgrades two years after Apple launched the iPad mini 6.

According to known tipster "Instant Digital", the hardware upgrades include the processor, cameras, and display.

New Chipset

While the iPad mini 6 is powered by the A15 Bionic chipset, the iPad mini 7 is expected to use the A16 Bionic instead. The same chipset also powers the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.

This slots in well with Apple's existing portfolio, including the Air and Pro models powered by the company's own M-series chips, while the standard iPad and mini use the A-series chips.

Upgraded Camera Experience

The iPad mini 7 could sport the same 12MP resolution front and rear cameras as its predecessor, but the tipster says the lens could be upgraded to newer versions.

Apart from this, Apple could also upgrade the camera software with new features like Photonic Engine, ProRes video recording, portrait mode, audio zoom, and more.

New Display

One of the issues with the existing iPad mini 6 is the "jelly scrolling" effect. Users have complained of screen tearing, an issue that is caused due to a mismatch in refresh rates. This has also affected multiple smartphones from other companies in the past.

The iPad mini 7 is expected to fix this problem by rotating the screen assembly. It's unclear if the issue will be completely fixed or if Apple will only minimize it.

Updated Color Palette

While the iPad mini 7 will sport the same design as its predecessor, buyers will also get to choose from several new color options. Although the tipster does not know the exact colors, the rumor mill suggests Apple could borrow from the iPhone 15 series.

The updated color palette could include blue, black, yellow, pink, and green.

While some rumors have suggested that Apple will launch new iPads with updated chips this week, Bloomberg columnist Mark Gurman believes it "won't happen this month".
