Marjorie Taylor Greene Criticizes Kamala Harris For 'Communist' Gun Control Policies: 'Shame On You...'

In a fiery exchange on X (previously known as Twitter), Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for promoting “communist” gun control policies.

What Happened: The exchange started when Harris posted on X advocating for a ban on assault weapons and urging Congress to send such a bill to President Joe Biden‘s desk.

“weapons of war have no place on the streets of a civil society,” she said.

“We need an assault weapons ban,” Harris wrote, adding, “Congress, send it to [President Joe Biden’s] desk.”

Greene responded to the VP’s post, stating, “America needs a ban on communist politicians like you.”

The representative from Georgia further critiqued Harris for attempting to strip Americans of their right to self-defense, especially as the country grapples with immigration issues at the southern border. "Shame on you for trying to destroy Americans' right to defend ourselves while your policies have caused skyrocketing crime and our country to be invaded by criminals, gangs, and terrorists,” Greene wrote.

Why It Matters: Greene’s comments sparked a mix of reactions on X, with some users opposing her stance and others criticizing Harris’s initial post. The dialogue on gun control comes amidst calls by members of the congressional group “The Squad” to welcome Palestinian refugees into the U.S., a move former President Donald Trump warns could have severe repercussions.

Greene, a staunch Trump ally, has recently suggested that the former president should fill the current House speaker vacancy, a move she believes could help resolve the Ukraine war and secure the southern border.

Last month, Biden announced his administration was setting up a new office of gun violence prevention at the White House, to be headed by Harris. The office’s objective is to facilitate coordination on the matter and enforce current laws while collaborating with local authorities to enact state-level gun safety legislation.
