Biden Expected To Request $100B In Aid For Israel, Ukraine, And Domestic Issues

The Biden administration is reportedly planning to request a significant aid package from Congress. The package, anticipated to be worth approximately $100 billion, is expected to include provisions for Israel, Ukraine, and several key domestic issues.

As per a report from Politico, the proposed funding will cater to an entire year and may also encompass border and disaster aid funding. However, these details are yet to be finalized.

The request is likely to reach Congress Hill as early as Friday, upon President Joe Biden’s return from his trip to Israel. This move comes in the wake of a surprise attack on Israel by the Palestinian militant group Hamas earlier this month, which sparked widespread support in Congress for immediate aid to Israel.

While Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) expressed his wish for the Senate to act swiftly, the House’s response is currently on hold due to the Republican party’s inability to elect a speaker.

There has been some resistance from House Republicans regarding the bundling of aid to Israel and Ukraine. However, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) supports the administration’s stance of tying the aid together, emphasizing the interconnectedness of these issues.

McConnell also stressed the need for a credible solution for border issues, referencing the administration’s previous supplemental request of $4 billion for the southern border, which wasn’t included in the government funding bill approved by Congress.
