In a recent parliamentary address, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz committed to partnering with Israel to provide aid to Gaza.
As per a report by DW, Scholz reassured lawmakers of Germany’s support for Israel. He emphasized that assistance must be extended to Palestinians who are “at the mercy” of Hamas.
The statement followed Scholz’s visit to Israel earlier the same week. He insisted on the necessity of including humanitarian aid as part of any future strategy.
He said, “Israel has every right to defend itself, but we are very clear in our conversations with our friends in Israel that humanitarian aid also is part of the picture.”

He disclosed discussions with Israel, Jordan, and Egypt to find ways for possible humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza. Scholz stressed the need to keep the conflict “limited” during his dialogue with regional leaders.
The German Chancellor also emphasized the necessity to prevent further regional escalation. He warned that the involvement of Iran or Hezbollah in the conflict would be a “grave mistake.” Scholz called for the unconditional release of hostages by Hamas, recounting his interaction with the hostages’ families in Tel Aviv.
Scholz affirmed that the European Council stood united in its support for Israel. He reiterated the zero-tolerance policy for anti-Semitism in Germany, making reference to a recent suspected firebombing attempt on a Berlin synagogue.
