SPAC King Chamath Palihapitiya Slams 'Moral And Cultural Rot' In Universities: 'We Need First Principle Thinkers...Not Oppressed Kens And Karens'

  • Students get auto recruited into these organizations when they join Harvard, said Palihapitiya.
  • He sounded out the need for people who could think from first principles.

SPAC king and venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya, in a recent post, offered his take on the Harvard students groups signing a pro-Palestinian letter following Hamas’ strikes against Israel.

Commenting on the “moral and cultural rot” in the leading universities, Palihapitiya said in a post on X, formerly Twitter, “We need these places to help our kids become independent, first principles thinkers – not oppressed ‘Kens and Karens’ who can’t think for themselves.”

He noted that individual students who were supposed to be part of the associations that were signatories to the first release disavowed the statement. Citing a tweet from an Indian-origin Colorado law student, the venture capitalist said students get auto-recruited into these organizations when they join Harvard.

This is as opposed to the general thinking that Harvard is a place that is supposed to be for modern free speech and progressive thinking, the SPAC king said. Instead, he said that based on one’s skin color, they are likely to be drafted into some association.

“Then you auto sign any press release request submission that you don’t even see or approve,” he observed.

“We need people who could think from first principles,” the venture capitalist said, adding those kids aren’t it and those institutions aren’t making them.

“We could really figure out what happened in the past that was right and what can we do in the future, ” Palihapitiya said. It’s a real shock that Harvard and Stanford are spinning out these kids, he added.
