Tesla Inc. TSLA has dropped hints about potentially developing a ‘Plaid’ version of its popular Model 3, stirring interest among its fanbase,
According to a report by Electrek, Tesla released its owner's manual for the new Highland variant of the Model 3. Internet users, combing through the new material, found hints suggesting a possible Plaid version of the Model 3. Notably, the user group “The Kilowatts” found a reference to a performance version of the updated Model 3, along with an image of the Ludicrous mode badging and references to “Plaid.”
The Plaid moniker has traditionally been reserved for the top performance versions of Tesla's Model S and Model X. Previously, Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk had dismissed the idea of extending the Plaid badge to the Model 3 or Model Y, opting to keep it exclusive to the company’s flagship models.
However, the new findings have sparked speculation about a possible change in Tesla’s strategy. The Plaid badge could either be an error or an indication of a new version of the Model 3 Performance. Further details are not available yet, but the new model could feature an advanced suspension system, sport brakes, and lightweight, minimalist wheels.
While it remains unclear if a Plaid Model 3 is indeed in the works, Tesla is expected to bring more clarity on the matter soon as it gears up to deliver the new Long Range AWD version of the Model 3 in Europe and Asia.
