In what is being hailed as a much-anticipated update, Apple Inc. AAPL is expected to launch iOS 17.1 and other software updates tomorrow, following an extensive period of beta testing.

What Happened: The forthcoming software updates, encompassing iOS 17.1, iPadOS 17.1, macOS Sonoma 14.1, tvOS 17.1, watchOS 10.1, and HomePod Software 17.1, could launch at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time, which is a standard release timing for Apple, reported MacRumors.

Last week, Apple disseminated release candidates of these software updates for testing to ensure there are no major bugs. Moreover, Cupertino has reportedly begun working on iOS 17.2, hinting at potential new beta features later this week, post the release of iOS 17.1 and associated updates.

The watchOS 10.1 update is of particular interest as it introduces several new features, including NameDrop for contact information sharing, and Double Tap for managing phone calls or accessing the Smart Stack

MacOS Sonoma 14.1 and HomePod 17.1 also incorporate multiple bug fixes and feature improvements.

The update also brings improved functionalities for Apple Music and Screen Time, and the capability to continue large AirDrop transfers over the internet.

The date for Tuesday is largely confirmed because French regulatory body ANFR has verified that the iOS 17.1 update, incorporating a feature to decrease radiation levels for iPhone 12 models, is slated for Oct. 24, the report noted.

Why It Matters: Apple’s iOS 17.1 update has been in the spotlight for a while now.

The tech giant started public rollouts of the iOS 17.1 beta 1 update to testers back in September. The beta version allowed users to try the forthcoming iOS update before the final version’s release, and included new features not present in the iOS 17 launch.

The iOS 17.1 update aims to address significant issues impacting usability, including a prominent iPhone 15 bug causing display burn-in issues. This fix is expected to greatly enhance the user experience.
