Why Is OpenAI CEO Sam Altman Singing Praises Of Airbnb's Brian Chesky?

The CEO of ChatGPT-parent, OpenAISam Altman, expressed his admiration for Brian Chesky, co-founder and CEO of Airbnb Inc. ABNB, citing his willingness to dedicate extensive hours to work on any topic and offer steadfast support in the tech industry.

What Happened: On Tuesday, Altman took to X (formerly Twitter) and appreciated Chesky saying that over the past year, many people have extended offers of assistance and guidance, but none came close to the Airbnb co-founder “in terms of delivering.”

“He will take a midnight call any time, put in hours of work on any topic, answer difficult questions correctly/with clarity, make any intro, etc,” Altman said about Chesky.

The OpenAI CEO went on to say that Chesky operates discreetly in the background and without seeking anything beyond the opportunity to expand his knowledge of AI.

He said that while most companies have had such invaluable individuals in their history, their contributions often go underappreciated.

Why It’s Important: In February earlier this year, Chesky expressed his excitement for AI, saying that Airbnb stood to uniquely benefit from AI’s capabilities.

At the time, he stressed the challenges Airbnb faces as a platform with 6.6 million unique listings and over 100 million reviews and highlighted that AI could be instrumental in managing this vast and diverse dataset.

The Airbnb CEO has previously also called Altman one of his “close friends” with whom he talks “all the time.”
