Maine Shootings Leave 16 Dead, Gunman Still On The Loose

A lethal attack in Lewiston, Maine, has left at least 16 people dead and numerous others injured. The incident occurred in a bowling alley and a bar, with the suspect still at large.

USA Today reported, the Lewiston Police Department reported the active shooter situation around 7:30 p.m. The authorities are urging residents to stay off the streets and remain vigilant.

The Lewiston Police and the Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office released photos of the suspect. The images show an armed man entering a bowling alley.

Local business owners quickly reacted to the news, with many closing their doors and ensuring the safety of their staff and customers.

President Joe Biden has been briefed on the situation and has offered full federal support. He has individually contacted Maine Governor Janet Mills, Sens. Angus King (I-Maine) and Susan Collins (R-Maine), and Congressman Jared Golden (D-Maine).

The Maine Department of Public Safety is encouraging residents to stay home and keep their doors locked. Businesses are also advised to lock down or close while the investigation is ongoing.

The Lewiston police have named 40-year-old Robert Card as a person of interest in the case. Residents are advised to contact law enforcement if they have any information about his whereabouts.

All public schools in Lewiston will be closed following the incident, as announced by the district’s superintendent. Bates College, a private liberal arts school, is currently on lockdown.

Central Maine Medical Center is reacting to the mass casualty event and is coordinating with area hospitals to accommodate patients.
