James Comer Wants Jamie Raskin To Apologize Over 'Disinformation' Related To Biden Family Probe: Your Statements 'Contradict Facts And Are, Unfortunately, Lies'

Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) has called out Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) for allegedly spreading false information concerning the investigation into President Joe Biden‘s family financial affairs.

What Happened: Comer, who chairs the House Oversight Committee, in a letter to Raskin on Thursday, states that his Democratic colleague has misrepresented the information shared within the committee and has minimized the findings of the investigation.

The Republican representative alleges Raskin’s statements contradict the facts and are “lies.”

"In the course of this investigation, you have been a spirited critic of the need to look into President Biden or his family," Comer wrote.

"However, the Oversight Committee must not be used as a means to propagate false or deceptive information, and for that purpose, we must address public statements you have made that contradict facts and are, unfortunately, lies," he said.

"The Committe requests that you formally correct the record and apologize to the American people for spreading disinformation about the evidence collected by the Committe during its investigation of President Biden," he continued.

Comer’s investigation alleges that Biden accepted $200,000 from businesses through his brother, James Biden. Financial documents released by the committee suggest that President Biden settled a set of small personal loans with his brother between his vice presidency and presidential campaign.

Why It Matters: Raskin has consistently criticized Comer's investigation, dismissing the Republicans’ evidence as a "conspiracy theory" and a "fairytale." He has previously stated that the Republicans don’t have substantial evidence against the president.

Paul Fishman, James Biden’s attorney, has described the Oversight Committee’s characterization of the $200,000 check as “highly selective and misleading”.

The investigation has also examined the business dealings of the president's son, Hunter Biden, and has been central to GOP efforts to impeach President Biden.
