Lucid Recalls Over 1,000 Cars After Customer Reports Burnt Finger From Overheating Seat

Luxury EV maker Lucid Group Inc LCID is recalling over 1,000 Lucid Air sedans manufactured between 2022 and 2023, citing risks of rear seats overheating to the point of causing burn injuries.

What Happened: The temperature monitoring and control system for the rear seats might not operate in particular conditions, paving the way for the seats to be overheated.

The overheating may get to the point of discoloring the seat surface or charring it. A customer also reported a burnt finger on touching the discolored seat. The company has recalled 1,267 vehicles owing to the risks.

“Lucid will reimburse owners for costs an owner reasonably incurred to obtain a remedy for this defect during the period starting from initial vehicle delivery through 10 days after Lucid's mailing of the owner
notification letter concerning this noncompliance, ” the company said in a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Customers looking for a reimbursement need to reach out to the company’s customer care in the matter.

Lucid’s Numbers: Lucid could only muster deliveries of 1,457 EVs in the third quarter. Year-to-date, the company has produced 6,037 units, and if the 700 EVs the company has shipped to Saudi Arabia for final assembly were included, the production tally is 6,737 units.

Deliveries so far this year totaled 4,367 EVs. Lucid expects to make over 10,000 units for the year and this leaves the company with a tall target of 3,263 units to meet for the final quarter of the year.

Price Action: Lucid shares closed down 2.4% on Thursday at $4.07. The stock has slumped 34% year-to-date, according to data from Benzinga Pro.
