Meta's Threads Introduces Polls And Gifs, Begins Testing View Counts, Pinned Posts

Meta Platforms Inc. META has announced that its app, Threads, will now include polls and GIFs.

The company’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, demonstrated the new features by creating posts containing a poll and a GIF, The Verge reported. These features, although basic, have been present on other platforms like X (formerly Twitter) for a long time.

Polls on Threads will allow for up to four options and include a real-time countdown timer. Users can only see poll results after voting, with Threads notifying them when the poll concludes. To share GIFs more conveniently, users can select a new GIF icon to browse trending GIFs from Giphy or search for specific ones.

Additionally, Instagram’s Head, Adam Mosseri, revealed that Threads is testing view counts on posts and pinned posts on profiles and replies. View counts aim to provide users with a better grasp of their reach, as more feedback is generally beneficial, Mosseri stated. The testing phase for these features is currently live for a limited number of users.

Threads, which launched in July, has already garnered approximately 100 million monthly active users, as disclosed by Zuckerberg during Wednesday’s earnings call.
