Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) has indicated his willingness to assume the role of vice president under former President Trump should Trump win in the 2024 elections.
The conversation occurred during Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” where Donalds stated that the decision would ultimately be “up to the president,” reported The Hill.
Donalds has previously expressed his determination to “do whatever I can to get our country back on track.”
The Florida representative had already endorsed Trump’s White House bid in April, calling him the “one leader” who can steer the U.S. in the right direction. His endorsement was notable, especially as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, was positioning himself as a strong alternative to Trump in the Republican presidential primary.
This comes after Donalds withdrew from the GOP Speaker’s race last week. The nomination was eventually clinched by now-Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), who was elected as the 56th Speaker of the House amid weeks of GOP infighting.
Recent polls have shown that Trump maintains a dominant lead in the GOP primary presidential polls. A poll from FiveThirtyEight revealed Trump with 56.9 percent of the Republican primary vote, with DeSantis lagging at 14.1 percent.
