Google Boosts STEM Support With Search And Lens Updates

Google GOOGL GOOG has enhanced its search engine and Lens features to aid those in STEM fields grappling with complex queries. The new features aim to simplify the visualization and understanding of intricate math and physics problems.

Google’s updates permit users to type equations into the Search bar or snap a photo with Lens to receive step-by-step solutions. This facility extends to word problems, specifically those related to high-school physics, reported Android Police.

Notably, the integration of Lens addresses challenges in geometry, including deciphering visual problems. For instance, Lens can interpret both the visual and text components of a problem, such as calculating the area of a triangle given the measurements of two sides.

Google has also introduced interactive 3D models on Search, enabling users to explore almost 1,000 topics from biology, chemistry, physics, and astronomy. This feature is designed for users seeking a deeper visual understanding of complex STEM concepts.

The underlying technology for these features traces back to Google’s ongoing efforts to enhance its AI capabilities. The integration of Pattern Learning Machine (PaLM) into Google’s Language Model for Dialogue Application (LaMDA) platform, Bard, expanded its capabilities to include arithmetic, code completion, logical inference, and more.

While AI tools like Google’s latest Search and Lens features are becoming increasingly sophisticated, Google emphasizes their purpose as supplementary resources, designed to complement traditional learning and problem-solving methods.
