From Messaging To Payments, Elon Musk Wants X To Be An 'Everything App'

A year after acquiring Twitter, Elon Musk is trying to transform the erstwhile “bird app” into a single application that encompasses everything.

According to The Verge report, Musk communicated his vision during an internal X meeting in October.

Musk stated, "We're rapidly transforming the company from what it was, Twitter 1.0, to the everything app."

The platform aims to compete with various popular platforms such as YouTube, LinkedIn, FaceTime, and even dating apps and the banking industry. Musk believes that X needs more than being a “digital town square” to succeed.

This was his first joint all-hands meeting with Linda Yaccarino, who joined as CEO in May. Musk, who still oversees X's product and engineering teams, did most of the talking during the 45-minute call.

However, the transformation of Twitter into X has not been smooth. The company's biggest advertisers have mostly left in the past year due to Musk's antics. Additionally, the X Premium subscription has not gained traction, and the business is still not profitable with a sinking valuation.

Nevertheless, Musk remains optimistic, stating, "I think this is the fastest rate of innovation maybe ever for any internet company."

He believes that the app can be an all-inclusive feature set where users can do anything from one single, convenient place, drawing comparisons with China’s WeChat.
