Microsoft Corporation’s MSFT professional networking subsidiary, LinkedIn, has hit a significant milestone, crossing one billion members. In conjunction, the platform has also introduced an AI chatbot, “Job Seeker Coach,” aimed at assisting job seekers.
What Happened: According to a CNBC report, LinkedIn rolled out an AI chatbot designed to act as a “job seeker coach.” This launch was announced alongside the news that the platform’s membership had exceeded one billion.

LinkedIn’s AI Chatbot: Powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4, the chatbot is part of LinkedIn’s efforts to enhance the platform and stimulate revenue growth after seeing eight consecutive quarters of decelerating expansion. It provides users with feedback on their job applications based on their profile and experience.
LinkedIn’s VP of Product Engineering, Erran Berger, emphasized the company’s commitment to creating a seamless chatbot experience and upholding “responsible AI standards.”
Why It Matters: This development comes on the heels of Microsoft’s record fiscal year, where LinkedIn contributed over $15 billion in revenue for the first time.
As part of its ongoing transformation, LinkedIn has been focusing on tools like automated recruiter messages and AI-driven profile writing suggestions.
Prior to this, LinkedIn encountered a slowdown, leading to layoffs across its engineering, talent, and finance teams.
These measures were taken amidst slowing revenue growth and an uncertain economic outlook.
The launch of the AI chatbot can be seen as a response to these challenges, aiming to reinvigorate the platform and boost revenue growth.
