In an amusing turn of events during the Trump Organization’s civil fraud trial, Donald Trump Jr. asked Jane Rosenberg, a courtroom sketch artist, to “make him look sexy”.
What Happened: As reported by Reuters, this incident took place during a pause in Trump Jr.’s testimony on November 2, 2023. Trump Jr., who was on the stand for several hours, was striving to disassociate himself from the suspect financial statements deemed fraudulent.
Post his testimony, Trump Jr. spoke with Rosenberg, who was covering the trial for Reuters. Rosenberg stated that Trump Jr. requested a sketch that could elevate his charm.
Trump Jr. even recommended a sample – a complimentary courtroom depiction of recently found guilty ex-cryptocurrency tycoon Sam Bankman-Fried, which he believed made Bankman-Fried seem like a “superstar”.
Rosenberg, however, didn’t concur with Trump Jr.’s evaluation, stating that the sketch didn’t accurately represent the original subject and clarified that no one was intending to draw that in the court.
Why It Matters: This instance adds an element of levity to an otherwise serious trial. The Trump Organization’s civil fraud case, as covered by Benzinga, features Trump Jr., his brother Eric, and their father as defendants.
Earlier, Trump Jr. had testified, attempting to shift blame onto accountants. This case, although it doesn’t pose a jail risk for the Trumps, could result in significant fines and might deprive Trump of control over many New York properties that formed his reputation before his foray into politics.
