Renowned author Stephen King has criticized Twitter’s rebranding as “X,” prompting a clever yet amusing response from Elon Musk, which quickly gained attention on the internet.
What Happened: Earlier in July this year, Twitter’s sudden rebranding to “X” took the digital world by surprise and received mixed reactions from netizens and analysts alike.
On Thursday, the “It” author expressed his disapproval with a blunt post on the platform saying that X has “got to go,” accompanied by the hashtag ChangeItBack.
The move left many users baffled, and opinions were, once again, divided.

However, the spotlight soon shifted to Musk when he responded with a tongue-in-cheek post.
In the comment section, some users agreed with Musk and said, “Twitter is dead! Long live 𝕏.” Others questioned King’s understanding of social media algorithms and advised him to stick to writing books.
Subsequently, some users also pointed out that despite the rebrand and the enthusiasm about the new identity, many continue to refer to the platform as Twitter and posts as tweets. Previously, Musk himself humorously slipped up multiple times during a virtual appearance.
It is worth noting that King was not in favor of Musk’s decision to monetize the verified blue checkmark.
Why It’s Important: Musk’s X has more serious problems currently than worrying about the rebrand.
Earlier this week, it was reported that the tech billionaire’s microblogging site’s value has nosedived to less than half of its purchase price, likely due to his chaotic leadership and advertisers’ concerns about content safety on the platform.
X’s valuation reportedly stands at $19 billion, equivalent to $45 per share, while Musk bought it for $44 billion in October last year.
