Elon Musk's xAI is finally launching its first AI model tomorrow (Nov. 4), merely a day after the Tesla Inc. TSLA CEO said that AI will lead to a time when no job is needed.
What Happened: Musk has just announced that his AI venture, xAI, will release its first model tomorrow to a select group.
He went on to claim that xAI will be the best AI model in certain important aspects, without elaborating any further.
"Tomorrow, @xAI will release its first AI to a select group," Musk said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
"In some important respects, it is the best that currently exists," he added.
This comes merely a day after Musk reiterated that AI poses an existential threat to humanity at the UK AI Safety Summit. Representatives from the US, UK, Europe and China also participated in this summit.

While in the past Musk has said AI could be more dangerous than nuclear weapons, he also thinks that AI will one day take away all the jobs that humans currently do.
"It's hard to say exactly what that moment is, but there will come a point where no job is needed. You can have a job if you wanted to have a job for personal satisfaction. But the AI would be able to do everything," he said.
Why It Matters: Musk is one of the co-founders of OpenAI, which is now led by Sam Altman. He had a fallout with the company after it took a different direction, turning to a for-profit model while it was initially envisioned as an open-source non-profit.
Musk has publicly criticized OpenAI for a long time now, and has also been talking about the dangers that AI poses to humanity.
The launch of xAI thus becomes critical to understand the direction that Musk wants to take AI in. It's not clear exactly what xAI's first AI model will be about, but we should know soon.
