Elon Musk Takes Another Swipe At Mark Zuckerberg, Likens Instagram To OnlyFans

Elon Musk, known for his eccentric statements and unfiltered presence on social media, has once again directed his attention towards his tech peer, Mark Zuckerberg. This time Musk has drawn a parallel between Instagram and OnlyFans.

What Happened: Tesla and SpaceX CEO Musk and Meta Platforms CEO Zuckerberg have engaged in a persistent rivalry. Their jabs on social media platforms are no secret. Now, while replying to a post on X (formerly Twitter), Musk has ended up drawing a parallel between Meta’s Instagram and popular subscription platform, OnlyFans.

Musk found himself in agreement with DogeDesigner, who goes by the name cb_doge on X, comparing Instagram to OnlyFans. Responding to the user's post, which read, "What's the difference between Instagram and OnlyFans? Just the name," Musk said, "Pretty much."

The rivalry between Musk and Zuckerberg reached new heights when the Meta CEO announced the launch of Instagram Threads, a platform intended to rival Twitter. Threads allowed users to post text and links, reply to messages, and repost content from others.

Threads gained immense traction quickly, amassing over 10 million sign-ups within its first seven hours. Zuckerberg proudly shared this news on his Threads account.

Musk has, in the past, threatened to sue Threads for hiring former Twitter employees, who had been let go amid controversy.

Why It Matters: This comparison between Instagram and OnlyFans, though amusing, underscores the rivalry, especially in the social media landscape, between Musk and Zuckerberg.

Just last month, Musk took aim at Zuckerberg for Meta's reported $36 billion investment in the metaverse. When an X account shared images of metaverse avatars, one of which portrayed Zuckerberg, along with the caption, "Remember when Facebook bet their entire company on this?" Musk, in his characteristic style, replied with a simple, "Genius move."

Back in June, Musk took to Twitter and challenged Zuckerberg for a physical showdown. Initially, the Zuckerberg responded with enthusiasm, but his initial excitement gradually waned. By August, he had hinted on Threads at ending the idea.
