In a recent development, Swedish electric vehicle manufacturer Polestar PSNY forged a partnership with South Korea’s leading battery producer, SK On. The collaboration involves SK On supplying battery cell modules for Polestar’s upcoming Polestar 5 electric 4-door GT.
The decision to collaborate with SK On was influenced by the latter’s advanced battery cell technology, Polestar said in a release. SK On’s technology is noteworthy for its high-performing chemistry, quick charging, and efficient discharging capabilities, which collectively contribute to extended driving range. Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar, showcased his enthusiasm for the new partnership, recognizing SK On’s previous investments in Polestar and the swift development of the Polestar 5. Concurrently, Jee Dong-seob, CEO of SK On, expressed his pleasure at the partnership, pledging to strengthen the relationship with Polestar and explore new opportunities through the agreement.

Expected to begin production in 2025, the Polestar 5 is a representation of the evolution of the Polestar Precept concept car. The development of the vehicle is currently being showcased in a YouTube documentary series titled "From Concept to Car.”
