SAIC General Motors Initiates Massive 1M Vehicle Recall in China Over Power Loss Concerns in Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet Brands

SAIC General Motors Co on Friday issued a recall for over a million vehicles in China citing risks of them losing power while driving.

What Happened: Starting from May 31, 2024, the company will recall certain Buicks, Chevrolet and Cadillac vehicles in batches. A total of over 1.1 million vehicles will be recalled of which Buicks account for over 600,000 units, Cadillac for over 300,000 and Chevrolet for nearly 200,000.

As per the statement on China's State Administration for market regulation website, the vehicles have poor moisture proofing. Water may invade the inside of the control module and even cause loss of power in particular cases.

As for a solution, the company will replace the control module in the vehicle free of cost to the customers.

SAIC-GM is a joint venture between China’s SAIC Motor and Detroit-based General Motors Co GM.
