Tesla Inc CEO Elon Musk has an "unconventional" recipe for Israel to defeat Hamas. Musk appeared on the Lex Fridman podcast for the fourth time on Nov. 9, outlining a different approach to the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, which has now entered its 34th day.
What Happened: Musk suggested the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu-led Israel government adopt an unconventional approach to beat back Hamas, which he says is winning the global PR war.
"The counterintuitive thing that should be done here, even though it is very difficult, is that I recommend Israel do the most conspicuous acts of kindness possible," Musk told Fridman.
"That is the actual thing that would thwart the goal of Hamas," he added.
Musk underlined that Hamas' invasion on Oct. 7 was designed to provoke Israel into launching a disproportionate response and then leveraging it to rally support for the Gazan cause.
Fridman asked Musk if he thinks Israel should use the "turn the other cheek" strategy to win the geopolitical narrative, but Musk thinks otherwise.
"It is appropriate for Israel to find Hamas members and either kill them or incarcerate them, otherwise they are going to keep coming," Musk explained.
Win The Hearts And Minds, Says Musk
As for the "acts of kindness" strategy that Israel needs to adopt, Musk said the Netanyahu government should set up mobile hospitals and ensure there is adequate food and water.
"Be over the top about it, be very transparent about it so people can't claim it's a trick. Just put a webcam on it, 24/7," he added.
Musk explained that short of a genocide, Israel will "leave a lot of people alive who subsequently will hate Israel" if it continues with the existing strategy.
"The question is, for every Hamas member you killed, how many did you create? If you created more than you've killed, you have not succeeded," he said.
The death toll in Gaza has reportedly reached 10,022. Both Israel and Hamas have been accused of war crimes by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk.
"If the goal is long-term peace, one has to look at it from the standpoint of whether more or less terrorists are being created," Musk said, adding that while wars will always exist, it's the scope and scale of these wars that will matter.
