An attorney formerly associated with Donald Trump informed Georgia prosecutors that she received information following the 2020 election indicating that the former president had no intentions of leaving the White House despite losing the election.
What Happened: ABC News gained access to revelations made during a confidential interview with Jenna Ellis, one of Trump’s attorneys, and Sidney Powell, as part of a plea deal with Georgia prosecutors.
During her proffer session, Ellis shared that Trump’s senior White House official, Dan Scavino, conveyed that “the boss is not going to leave under any circumstances” despite the election outcome. She alluded to two additional “relevant” instances but was restricted from disclosing them due to attorney-client privilege.
“And I said to him, ‘Well, it doesn’t quite work that way, you realize?'” Ellis told Scavino, and he replied, “‘We don’t care.'”
Powell also detailed plans to seize voting machines nationwide and asserted frequent communication with Trump during her efforts to overturn the 2020 election. Powell, acknowledging her lack of knowledge about election law, maintained the false assertion that Trump won the election.

Why It Matters: Ellis and Powell have recently agreed to cooperate with the district attorney’s election interference case. This comes after agreeing to plead guilty to reduced charges in exchange for their cooperation, thus avoiding jail time.
Steve Sadow, Trump’s lead counsel in the Fulton County case, dismissed Ellis’s account as “absolutely meaningless” and emphasized that Trump left the White House on Jan. 20, 2021.
Trump and 18 others pleaded not guilty in August to charges related to efforts to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results.
The investigation led by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has faced criticism from Trump, who alleges political motivation.
