Since announcing the release of xAI’s first artificial intelligence model named “Grok” earlier this month, Elon Musk has been busy promoting the chatbot as a far more advanced alternative to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Now, he has made two more important announcements regarding the same.
What Happened: On Wednesday, Musk announced that Grok’s Application Program Interface or API access is now in its early beta phase. It simply means that the interface, which allows external programs to interact with the services provided by Grok, is now available for a select group of users to test.
Meanwhile, Grok’s parent company and Musk’s AI enterprise, xAI, has announced that the company is looking for engineering and research talent who can join their team.
The open roles are for AI Engineer & Researcher, AI Tutor, Data Engineering & Web Crawling, Full Stack Web Engineer, and Infrastructure Engineer.
All roles are primarily based in the Bay Area, San Francisco, and Palo Alto.
Why It’s Important: Earlier this month, the tech billionaire announced that users will get access to Grok depending on the length of time they have had an X Premium+ subscription.
Musk has also made it clear that he doesn’t just intend to make Grok compete with existing AI platforms like ChatGPT, Google Bard, and Microsoft Bing AI but make it a transitive verb like “googling.”
Moreover, it’s not just Musk who has been targeting ChatGPT, but OpenAI CEO Sam Altman also previously made a potshot at Grok, showing that new GPT features can make chatbots like this without going through much hassle.
