Elon Musk Calls Cybertruck 'Alien Technology' In Response To Offroad Comparison With Ford F-150 Lightning

Tesla Inc TSLA CEO Elon Musk on Wednesday responded to a video comparing the offroad performance of its upcoming Cybertruck and the wholly electric truck from Ford Motor Co F.

What Happened: “Cybertruck is alien technology,” Musk wrote on X, formerly Twitter. He was responding to a 40-second video which compared the offroad performance of the Cybertruck and the F150 Lightning side-by-side. However, both trucks seem to maneuver the muddy terrain at Hollister Hills State Vehicular Recreation Area (SVRA) slow and steady in the videos.

The comparison comes after videos emerged online of the Cybertruck taking over the terrain in the Gabilan mountains. In response, Ford CEO Jim Farley on Wednesday posted a video of the F-150 Lightning maneuvering through the same terrain with the caption, “F-150 Lightning does it all.”

Why It Matters: In May, Musk commended Ford’s overall EV strategy and noted that the F-150 Lightning has a high demand. However, in the last quarter, Ford sold merely 3,503 vehicles, marking a slump of 46% from the corresponding period last year.

Ford CEO Jim Farley, meanwhile, has previously dismissed Cybertruck as "a cool high-end product parked in front of a hotel." The Cybertruck, he said, is for Silicon Valley people. Ford, instead, makes trucks "for real people who do real work," he said.

The first deliveries of the original Tesla-made Cybertruck are scheduled to take place at Gigafactory Texas on Nov. 30. While Musk and Tesla have dropped in hints about the vehicle now and then, further details pertaining to performance and pricing continue to be under wraps.
