EV giant Tesla Inc TSLA is now officially advertising on YouTube, and at least one of the ads seen by Benzinga focuses on the safety of its vehicles.
What Happened: “Haha, yes – Tesla makes the safest cars on the planet, people should know that,” Vice President of Vehicle Engineering at Tesla Lars Moravy said by means of explanation on X, formerly Twitter.
“We are the only carmakers in the world that has a fleet of well over a million cars on the road, fully instrumented,” the ad said while adding that the company knows where and how everything is within the car from a sensing perspective. It noted that this allows the company to understand real exposure and design its vehicles as per that exposure.
How It Came Around: Earlier this year, in May, Musk had said that he was open to trying some advertising, diverging from the company’s former stance of staying away from traditional advertising.
Responding to a YouTuber who suggested advertising to drive awareness on different Tesla features, Musk had then said, “I share your sort of larger point, which is that there are amazing features and functionality about Teslas that people just don’t know about.”
“I believe in taking suggestions, so, well, we’ll try a little advertising and see how it goes,” he added. He also later outlined his idea about good advertising as informative, visually appealing, and having an artistic element.
The company and its billionaire CEO have also often reiterated the safety of its vehicles on roads. "Statistics speak for themselves. This is not a matter of opinion," Musk has said in the past.
