Following the firing of its CEO Sam Altman, OpenAI reached out to rival firm Anthropic, discussing a potential merger.
OpenAI’s board made overtures to Dario Amodei, the co-founder and CEO of Anthropic, a leading developer of large-language models. The approach was part of an effort by OpenAI’s board to persuade Amodei to replace the recently ousted CEO, The Information reported, citing unnamed sources.

However, it remains unclear whether these merger talks have progressed into serious discussions. Amodei reportedly declined the CEO offer, citing his current role at Anthropic.
The startup Anthropic, known for its chatbot Claude which competes with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, has been in the business for two years. Both companies are engaged in intense competition for attracting top researchers and winning over customers.
