GOP frontrunner and former President Donald Trump‘s health is in “excellent” condition, according to his personal physician.
What Happened: A letter from Trump‘s New Jersey-based physician, Dr. Bruce Aronwald, was shared on social media by the former president and his aides on Monday.
In his letter, Aronwald stated: “President Trump's overall health is excellent. His physical exams were well within the normal range, and his cognitive exams were exceptional.”
He went on to add that Trump’s lab results were “well within normal limits” and showed improvement in “some of the most significant parameters,” although specific details were not divulged.
Aronwald confirmed that Trump’s cardiovascular studies and cancer screenings were all normal. He also mentioned that Trump has lost weight due to an improved diet and daily physical activity.
Why It Matters: As the front-runner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, Trump’s health will likely be a subject of scrutiny as the election season nears. At 77 years old, Trump would be 82 by the end of a potential second term.
In August, Democratic strategist James Carville expressed apprehension about Trump’s health amid his ongoing political stress. In an interview, Carville suggested that Trump’s legal battles and personal well-being could possibly deter his chances of securing the nomination.
Despite these concerns, Carville dismissed the idea of anyone other than Trump emerging as the frontrunner in a GOP primary. He asserted that the Republican voter base appears to dislike individuals who oppose Trump, indicating the former president’s continuing influence within the party.
