A vehicle explosion at the US-Canada Rainbow Bridge on Wednesday is under investigation after a car crashed into the checkpoint area, killing two occupants.
What To Know: According to CNN, the two people in the vehicle that blew up at the US-Canada border crossing on Wednesday are dead. The matter is currently being investigated by the FBI, New York State Police and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
While the cause of the explosion is currently unknown, the report indicates the vehicle was traveling from the Canadian side of the border and exploded as it was approaching a secondary search checkpoint.
The Niagara International Transportation Technology Coalition, which provided camera footage showing a haze around the bridge, reported that the bridge was closed on both sides as a result of the crash. Federal authorities are attempting to gather more information by obtaining video from additional angles.
In a statement posted on X, the FBI said it's coordinating with local, state and federal law enforcement in the investigation.
"As this situation is very fluid, that’s all we can say at this time," the statement said.
