WATCH: XPeng Aeroht's Flying Car Can Land Intact With As Much As A Ton Of Cargo

XPeng Aeroht said on Sunday that the company’s multi-parachute rescue system for its X2 flying car can land the vehicle safely with as much as a ton of cargo in case of propeller death. The flying car company is affiliated with Chinese EV manufacturer Xpeng Inc XPEV.

What Happened: The company shared a nearly half-minute video on Sunday showing the flying car hovering in the air before shutting down, opening its four parachutes, and landing safely and vertically with as much as a ton of weight.

If all the propellers of the vehicle die, the parachute tech gets activated at a height of about 50 meters above ground and will enable the vehicle to land safely at a low speed of 5.2 m/s with no damage, the company has previously said.

Why It Matters: Aeroht completed the initial flight of the electric X2 flying car at Skydive Dubai in October 2022, witnessed by over 150 attendees. The X2 is a two-seater flying car boasting an enclosed teardrop-like cockpit and a lightweight carbon fiber structure.

It offers both manual and autonomous driving modes, making it suitable for in-city applications like sightseeing and medical transportation.

XPeng Chairman He Xiaopeng previously announced plans for mass production and customer deliveries of the X2 flying car by 2024.
