Former US Attorney Slams Team Trump's Latest Argument Against Gag Order: 'A Tired And Laughable Effort To Shirk Blame'

Former U.S. Attorney Joyce Vance slammed the latest legal argument by former president Donald Trump’s lawyers, labeling it “laughable.”

What Happened: Trump’s legal team is pushing back against efforts to bar the former president from criticizing prosecutors, judges, and courthouse personnel in his ongoing criminal and civil cases. They maintain that Trump should not be held accountable for the actions of others.

In her email newsletter ‘Civil Discourse,’ Vance termed the move a bid to dodge responsibility. She called it "a tired and laughable effort to shirk blame at this point."

“Even if Trump could have argued, years ago, that he was oblivious to the impact his words had on his followers, that time is now history,” she stated.

Vance, a former U.S. Attorney, cautioned that Trump "continues to be a danger to us," even hinting that anyone could be his next target. "We've seen enough. Now it's time to get to work and make sure Trump never holds public office again," she said.

Why It Matters: Last week, a court document revealed Judge Arthur Engoron and his clerk, Allison Greenfield, in Trump’s ongoing civil fraud trial in New York, received death threats and anti-Semitic abuse following Trump’s online outbursts.

Trump reacted to these developments with an online rant on Thanksgiving Day, targeting Engoron, New York Attorney General Letitia James, and President Joe Biden.

Following the incident, former federal prosecutor Kristy Greenberg also urged for the effective enforcement of a gag order against the ex-president. Greenberg, in her interview, labeled the threats as "vile" and "sickening." She stressed that "enough is enough already" and called for a potent "gag order that has teeth" to effectively mute Trump and put a stop to the threats.
