Jimmy Kimmel Takes On Trump's 'Jesus' Claim: 'You're Going Straight To Hell'

In a recent talk show episode, Jimmy Kimmel humorously debunked former president Donald Trump’s "most nonsensical" election claims.

What Happened: Trump had controversially suggested that he would have won in several states if the elections were “real.” Trump alleged over the weekend that his loss in California was due to a “rigged” election. He went on to assert that with divine intervention, he would have won in California, Illinois, and New York.

"If you had a real election and Jesus came down and God came down and said, ‘I'm gonna be the scorekeeper here,' I think we'd win there, I think we'd win in Illinois and I think we'd win in New York," Trump said.

“First of all, if Jesus comes down you’re going straight to hell. No White House. No jail. Jesus is like, ‘You’re out,'” Kimmel quipped.

The talk show host also pointed out that no Republican candidate has managed to win in any of the states Trump mentioned for over three decades. "You have about as much chance of winning California and New York as you do of winning an ice dancing medal at the Olympics. Zero," he said.

Why It Matters: Despite facing 91 felony charges linked to his past campaigns and mishandling of classified documents, Trump remains the clear frontrunner for the GOP presidential nomination. The latest Morning Consult poll of GOP voters showed Trump with a comfortable 50-point lead over his Republican opponents. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis ranked second with 14% of support from GOP voters.

Comedian Kimmel is known for his regular jabs at the Republican lawmakers. Last month, he slammed Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene‘s (R-Ga.) plea for an investigation of the House select committee that scrutinized the Jan. 6 Capitol riots, calling it her “dumbest” new idea.
