How To Solve Math Equations Faster With Google's Smart Compose

Alphabet Inc.’s GOOG GOOGL Google’s Smart Compose feature in Workspace on Tuesday introduced a faster method for solving simple math equations.

What Happened: By making machine learning integration, Google intends to enhance the productivity of Smart Compose in Docs, Slides, Sheets, and Drawings.

As per the company, when users type a math equation ending with “=” in their document, presentation, spreadsheet comments, or drawing, the solution will appear as gray text like it currently does for written content.

“This new seamless mathematical experience will increase productivity and accuracy when solving math equations across Workspace,” said Google.

How To Use This New Feature: As per Google, the feature will be activated by default. However, users simply need to access a Google Workspace document and navigate to the “Tools” tab to disable it. From there, select “Preferences” and deselect the “Show Smart Compose suggestions” checkbox.

Once the feature is available to you, users can type a math equation within the document, ensuring the equal (=) symbol precedes it. For instance, “=10+5/2”.

Smart Compose detects the equation and suggests the solution as soon as the equal sign is entered. This appears grayed out. Users can press the tab key to insert the solution or hit the spacebar to ignore it.

Availability: The feature has become accessible to some paid Google Workspace business and education users. However, its availability may vary, taking up to 15 days for a full rollout.
