In a bid to elevate its food service, McDonald’s MCD is partnering with Google GOOGL to launch generative AI in thousands of its outlets starting in 2024.
As reported by The Verge, McDonald’s has announced a collaboration with Google to introduce generative AI into its operations. This technological upgrade, which includes both hardware and software enhancements, is anticipated to optimize operations and enhance food quality across thousands of McDonald’s stores.
The AI technology, while not explicitly detailed, is likely to incorporate both on-site hardware and software improvements, supplemented by services provided through Google Cloud. The advanced system is designed to aid store managers in swiftly pinpointing and addressing issues, thereby reducing operational disruptions.

McDonald’s hasn’t specified how the AI integration will affect its workforce but suggests the system will simplify tasks for store staff and create novel experiences for both employees and customers. This move aligns with an earlier initiative by Wendy’s WEN, which began testing AI-based ordering systems earlier in the year.
The AI implementation is set to coincide with the launch of a new operating system aimed at harmonizing the customer experience across McDonald’s mobile app and in-store kiosks. McDonald’s hopes these changes will result in more efficient tests and automated solutions, thereby improving restaurant operations.
