Trump's Niece Finds His Alleged Use Of PAC Funds For Paying Witnesses 'Sketchy As Hell,' Says 'Donald Will Find Himself Broke'

Zinger Key Points
  • Trump, the leading contender in the Republican primary race, is facing multiple legal challenges.
  • Recent developments have made the New York civil case the former president is fighting murkier, says his niece.

Former President Donald Trump was put in a spot of bother by a news report that said the former president’s payments to witnesses in the New York civil fraud trial came out of his campaign funding. His niece Mary Trump sees the revelation as “so bad” for her uncle.

An ABC report said on Monday that expert witnesses appearing to testify in the trial were paid an hourly rate of anywhere between $350 to $1,595 per hour, with about $2.45 million spent in total. The bulk of the payment came from the former president’s “Save America” Political Action Committee, or PAC, it added.

Recent estimates put the PAC money Donald Trump siphoned out for his legal fees amounted to $37 million, Mary Trump said. “Considering he'll likely owe $250 Million after his fraud case is over, Donald will find himself BROKE,” she added.

Mary Trump, a psychologist said, this is so bad for her uncle, whose wealth and fame came mostly from convincing people that he was richer than what he actually was. “Now the curtain is finally pulled back on the humiliating reality that Donald needs to crowd-source MILLIONS of dollars to pay ‘experts’ to testify on his behalf,” she said.

Donald Trump’s usage of donations to his PAC for footing his legal bill and paying for expert witnesses is “sketchy as hell,” Mary Trump said. The Federal Election Commission could convene a hearing anytime to ascertain whether this is a legitimate use of campaign funds, she said. “With the costs he'd be forced to pay back, that would be devastating to him,” she added.

Mary Trump also noted that New York Attorney General Letitia James said an accounting professor, one of Donald Trump’s witnesses, admitted while testifying that the former president’s triplex was inflated.

Donald Trump did not take the witness stand for a second time in the trial on Monday. His family business, the Trump Organization, is facing charges of inflating the values of assets and properties to secure bank financing. A negative verdict in the trial could result in the former president paying potentially $250 million in fine.
