Boeing Co BA shares are trading higher Tuesday. Here's a look at what's going on.

What To Know: Boeing announced that Avolon intends to purchase 40 more 737-8 planes. Following the purchase, the Ireland-based lessor will have a portfolio of more than 110 jets. Avolon ordered 40 737-8s in June.

"With long-term travel demand expected to remain strong, we are ready to support lessors looking to increase their single-aisle portfolios with fuel-efficient jets capable of operating across various route networks," said Brad McMullen, Boeing senior vice president of Commercial Sales and Marketing.

"Avolon continues to be a significant and much valued customer for the 737 program. This repeat order, in the same year, demonstrates its confidence in the 737-8 and the value the airplane brings to its customers."

New reports also indicate that Boeing's deliveries last month were the highest since June. The planemaker delivered 56 airplanes in November, bringing it within striking distance of its annual targets, per Reuters.

Deliveries included 45 737 MAXs, six 787 Dreamliners, two 777 freighters, two 767s and one P-8 maritime patrol aircraft.

William Blair analyst Louie DiPalma also initiated coverage on Boeing Tuesday morning with an Outperform rating.
