Tesla Cybertruck Orders Roll In: Majority Buyers Flocking To This Option, Public Tracker Reveals

A public tracking list of Tesla Inc‘s TSLA Cybertruck orders reveals that a majority of the orders are for the lower-priced all-wheel-drive version.

What Happened: The Cybertruck comes in three versions: rear-wheel drive (RWD), all-wheel drive (AWD), and the tri-motor “Cyberbeast.”

Although the RWD is the cheapest, it won’t be available until 2025, making the AWD the currently more affordable model. The all-wheel drive also boasts a higher range of 340 miles compared to the Cyberbeast, albeit with lower horsepower and torque.

Out of the 444 orders tracked by the Cybetruck Owners Club’s order list, over 65% are for the AWD, with only 35% opting for the higher-end Cyberbeast.

Despite the Cybertruck’s range being less than the initially touted 500-plus miles at the vehicle’s unveiling in 2019, only 24% of order holders opted for a range extender — an alternative battery pack the size of two-thirds of the truck bed.

A majority also seem to appreciate the truck’s stainless steel exterior, with a whopping 87% choosing no wraps, about 10% opting for a black wrap, and nearly 2% selecting a satin clear wrap.

The highest number of orders come from California, followed by Texas and Florida, according to the tracker.

Why It Matters: Tesla initiated Cybertruck deliveries in late November, handing over a few units at a delivery event held at its gigafactory in Texas. The RWD starts at $60,990, the AWD at $79,990, and the Cyberbeast at nearly $100,000.
