Now that the festive celebrations and holidays are over and we are in a brand new year, it's time to evaluate all the purchases and gifts you've received. It's quite likely that some items either don't fit you, or you might not need or like some of them.
In such a scenario, you might want to know major retailers’ return or exchange policies.
To help you, we've compiled major retailers’ return, refund, and replacement policies in one place.

Amazon
Here are the return policies on some of the major products and categories on Amazon:
- Apple devices: 15 days.
- Amazon devices like Kindles, Fire tablets, and more: 30 days.
- Amazon Warehouse: 30 days.
- Automotive products: based on the manufacturer warranty.
- Birthday gift list: 90 days.
- Clothing: 30 days.
- Computers and electronics: 30 days.
- Furniture: 30 days.
Note that if Amazon finds that if the buyer has misrepresented the condition of the product they have returned, it can impose a fee of 15% or a higher restocking fee.
Walmart
Walmart's return policy extends up to 90 days, especially for products sold and shipped by the company.
The retailer is also running an extended return policy for holiday purchases – this includes products purchased between Oct. 1, 2023, and Dec. 31, 2023, which are returnable until Jan. 31, 2024.
However, the following product categories have different return windows:
- Major appliances: 2 days.
- Consumer electronics, PC and PC components, vacuums, electric scooters: 30 days.
Walmart says that returns of major appliances may be subject to a 20% restocking fee.
Best Buy
Best Buy allows customers to return products within 15 days. Products like phones and tablets have a return window of 14 days.
If you are a My Best Buy Plus or My Best Buy Total member, you can return items within 60 days. However, the return window for activatable products remains 14 days.
Target
Target offers a 90-day return window for most products. Customers with Target's credit card, RedCard, get an additional 30 days to return their purchases.
Apple products, excluding iPhones, have a 15-day return period. iPhones have a return period of 14 days.
Macy's
Macy's offers a 30-day return window. This is extended to 90 days if you want to return something that has been purchased from Macy's Gift Registry.
Macy also offers free return shipping for Star Reward members. However, non-members will be charged a $9.99 fee plus taxes – this will be deducted from the refund amount.
